What is Eucharistic Adoration?
During exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, the body and blood of Our Lord is placed in a
monstrance on the altar for our adoration. Spending time before the Blessed Sacrament
in prayer and devotion is spending time before the living God.
What to do during private Eucharistic Adoration? Pray a few psalms of adoration, Meditate
(think about) a passage of scripture, or the decades of the Rosary, read the life of a
Saint and ask them to help you pray, ask for forgiveness and intercede for others or
pour out your worries of the day. Think of this visit as coming to see your best friend.
Sit quietly, enjoy being in each others company and just listen to what He wants to
tell you.
There is no designated time to stay, but since it is only fitting that Jesus not be left alone
during this special time there is a sign up sheet in the narthex and parishioners who can
are asked to sign up for a particular time period usually an hour, so that we can
coordinate the scheduling.
Because of the solemnity of this time, genuflection is done on both knees and silence is
observed. There will be rosary beads, Bibles and pamphlets available.
What is a Novena?
A term used to describe the praying of a devotion for nine consecutive weeks. Most often these
these prayers are for a particular intention and are in honor of a particular saint or some aspect
of Jesus Christ such as the Sacred Heart. The number nine derives from the time Mary and the Apostles
waited for the coming of the Holy Spirit between Ascension Thursday and Pentecost.
